Move for Mind Partners with Fleet Feet Burbank/Encino
Jan 8, 2022
Move for Mind is proud to announce our partnership with the Burbank and Encino locations of Fleet Feet, the country’s largest run specialty retailer! Through our partnership, we are excited to kick off our “Move for Mind Fun Run + Discussion” event series, happening every month at the stores. You can learn more and RSVP for those events here. By bringing people together to openly discuss mental health and experience the benefits running has for it, these events will allow both our organizations to fulfill our shared goal of building community.
“Through our partnership with Fleet Feet Burbank and Encino, Move for Mind is excited to engage more people in our mission to improve mental health through running,” said Taylor Newman, Move for Mind’s co-founder and executive director. “The goal here is to offer participants a fresh perspective on why we run. Some of us run primarily for our mental health, some run for the community aspect, some run just to stay active and get away from the stress of life. Regardless of your reasoning, our fun run activities with Fleet Feet Burbank and Encino will offer a space to learn and grow and work to build community, conversation, and collaboration to improve mental health together.”
“We’ve always been a community-first brand. My goal is to always provide value to our community,” said Colin Klein, President of Fleet Feet Burbank and Encino. “We do these events and runs because the community enjoys it. They come out, they spend time with friends, they get away from the things that are bugging them for at least that hour or two and get to spend time with each other.”
The partnership offers wellness enthusiasts in the San Fernando Valley a new type of community running experience with an explicit focus on the relationship between physical health and mental health. The group runs and subsequent discussions, which will take place once a month at each Fleet Feet location, will provide a supportive social environment in which runners of all types and ability levels can connect with one another and share how running has benefitted them.
“I think running, for so many people, is a way of decompressing and managing those demons in our heads. I know, for me, I use it as a stress-reliever. I like the idea of having something that calls that out,” Klein said, referring to the group runs and discussions. “It’s as simple as saying this matters: our customer's matter, our communities matter, so we’re going to make sure it matters to us.”
Our first fun run event is happening Thursday, January 13 at 6:30pm PST at the Burbank store location, followed by our first event at the Encino store location happening January 27 at 6:30pm PST. The fun run events will occur monthly on the 2nd Thursday of the month in Burbank and the 4th Thursday of the month in Encino. All are welcome and we look forward to seeing you there!
