Your Mindset Matters

What goes on in our minds plays a big role in our lives. Negative thinking can be our worst enemy. Our thoughts shape our feelings and if we think enough negative thoughts we start to feel as if we have a negative life as a whole.


In an article from Very Well Mind the author states, “Your mindset is a set of beliefs that shape how you make sense of the world and yourself. It influences how you think, feel, and behave in any given situation.”


I believe that this is true. What we think becomes our reality. For example, if I continuously think that I am not smart enough then I will begin to lack the motivation to work harder and study because I have the mindset that I am just not smart enough to accomplish the task in front of me.


Sitting and focusing on the negative won’t change our current situation for the better. If anything it will make us feel less motivated and leave us feeling as if there is nothing positive around us.


We can change this scenario by working on our thoughts and our mindsets. Although it can be a tough task to rewire our minds to think different thoughts, it will improve our lives.

It’s easy to be hard on ourselves and think negatively when we aren't feeling our best. We are our worst critics and for most of us when we are stressed, overwhelmed, or having a rough time we begin to think negatively.


In my own day-to-day life, I know that negative thoughts frequently come to mind, and this is something that I am always working on changing. Negative thoughts and being too hard on ourselves is common, so let’s change this and work on our mindsets.

Instead of saying “I am a mess” say “I am human”

Instead of saying “I can’t do this” say “I will try my best”

Instead of saying “This is never going to end” say “nothing can last forever”

Instead of saying “I’m never going to understand this” say “Yes, this is a challenge, but I can handle it”


Taking the time to stop and flip our thoughts around by giving them a more positive and encouraging meaning can be beneficial for our mental health, well-being, and overall mood.


It is true that it is hard to always look on the bright side of things, but taking a few moments to reshape our current thoughts can be encouraging and motivational. Our thoughts create both our happiness and unhappiness. If we want to live a happier life let’s work on ditching the negative thoughts that cross our minds.
